Chris Whittington has been the chorus director at Dodgen Middle School since 1997. During his time at Dodgen, Mr. Whittington’s choirs have participated yearly in the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation and have received Excellent and/or Superior ratings every year. Additionally, each year since 1997, Dodgen has been honored by having a representative at the G.M.E.A. All-State Chorus event. Mr. Whittington has also been the coordinator and site coordinator for our district Honor Chorus.

The Dodgen Chorus, under Mr. Whittington’s direction, has sung at the Georgia State Capitol, East Cobb Senior Community Center, Sterling Estates, at the East Cobb Avenue, Atlanta Hawks Game, Braves Games, Gladiator Games, Cobb County Teacher of the Year East Cobb Celebration, Atherton Place Retirement High Rise, Cobb County Kaleidoscope, Pope Rising Stars Performance, and the Eighth Grade Chorus annually participates in the Disney Sings workshop at Walt Disney World and Resorts.

Mr. Whittington is a native of Cobb County. He grew up immersed in choral music through the school system as well as the music department at Smyrna First United Methodist Church. He was also active in the Big Chicken Chorus where he sang in numerous venues such as the Saddle Dome in Calgary, Canada and the Super Dome in New Orleans. He went on to attend Birmingham-Southern College, where he majored in Music Education and studied voice with Dr. David Smith. After graduation he started his current job as choral director at Dodgen Middle School. He previously assisted with God’ Light Youth Choir and sang with New Praise, both at Smyrna First United Methodist Church. He is currently involved in the music department at Mount Bethel First United Methodist Church where he sang in the chancel choir and in The Kingsmen. He is also currently the student choir director (Voice of Truth) for the church. Mr. Whittington and his wife, Tiffany, have 3 children: James (Freshman at Georgia College and State University), Jillian (Sophomore at Walton), and Jordan (6th grade at Dodgen Middle School).

Chandler Scott is excited to join the Dodgen Middle School family this year! Previously, Ms. Scott was the Choral Director at Evans Middle School in Newnan, GA, for the past four years. During her time there, her students participated in many festivals and activities including but not limited to Newnan High School’s Men’s Vocal Festival, Coweta County Honor Chorus, District 6 Honor Chorus, GMEA All-State Chorus, 6th Grade Statewide Chorus, and ACDA Treble Honor Chorus. Ms. Scott has always held her choirs to a standard of utmost excellence, but loves having fun and can’t wait to see what this year has in store!

Ms. Scott is a Cobb County native, growing up in Powder Springs where she made the bold decision to join 6th grade chorus on a whim and loved it so much she decided to make it her living! After studying with her mentor director Dr. Martha Shaw at Shorter University and Reinhardt University, she graduated from Reinhardt with an undergraduate degree in Music Education.

Ms. Scott takes pride in being a true “choir geek.” She has participated in many renowned choral and a capella groups in the state of Georgia and was given opportunities to perform all over the United States and parts of Europe. Because she is a fan of all music, she likes to incorporate different genres and styles in the music classroom. Outside of the everyday choral rehearsal, Ms. Scott specializes in private voice lessons, sight reading & All-State preparation, audition techniques, acting/drama, dancing, and making terrible jokes.
